Date: Spring 2012 Amount: $17,700   MSK 7th graders next year will attend leadership school Camp Kieve. In a group classroom setting and through activities including games, a rock-climbing wall, and a ropes course, the camp teaches the children healthy risk-taking, team building, and leadership strategies.

Geometry – Stained Desk

School:  Middle School of the Kennebunks Date:  Spring 2011 Total: $247.55   Students create a piece of “stained glass” using new geometric knowledge and a report that details seven points of geometry and dilation.  It will be a the culmination of the a newly created math unit on Geometry.

Host Nicaraguan Artist

Date: Winter 2011 Amount:  $650   International artist-in-residence Marlon Moreno from Leon, Nicaragua worked with students to create a mural at MSK with International Baccalaureate Themes.

Rams Cup

Date:  Fall 2010 Amount:  $400   Sixth grade language students competed in first annual Rams Cup soccer tournament.  Students studied the importance of soccer to French and Spanish speaking cultures.  The event supported the French/Spanish Geography Unit and included Physical Education and Arts as well.

Young Diplomats Club

Date:  Fall 2010 Amount:  $1,700   Students in the Young Diplomats Club at the Middle School of the Kennebunks visited the Japanese Consulate in Boston, and the club hosted speakers to bring awareness of global issues to students.  MSK is an International Baccalaureate Learner Profile School; the club provides an outlet for students to learn about other cultures.

Library 24/7 Audio Books

Date: Spring 2010 Amount: $9,750 Middle School of the Kennebunks and Kennebunk High School students and staff will have access to downloadable books supporting curriculum.

Chinatown Field Trip Transportation

Date: Winter 2010 Amount:  $663 Some of the transportation costs for the Chinatown field trip for 7th graders studying China will be funded.

Science Club

Date: Winter 2010 Amount: $300 MSK will pilot an after-school Science Club for students interested in additional science exploration.

Retrofit Unify LCD Projector

Date: Winter 2010 Amount: $3,000 The band room will receive a Retrofit Unify LCD projector to allow the music teacher to better apply techniques and approaches discovered at a Learning and Brain Conference.

French/Spanish Market

Date:  Winter 2010 Amount:  $1,500 Middle School of the Kennebunks students immerse themselves in a French or Spanish marketplace to test their language skills.

Turning the Me Into We

Date: Winter 2010 Sponsor: Mary McCarthy Amount: $2,000.00 To engage Michael Chase, founder of “The Kindness Center”, to be a part of the Middle School of the Kennebunks for the ’09-’10 school year. The Telling Room

Exchange City
